Things here in the DR are going really well as usual. :)
This last week has been pretty normal. (Ha. I never thought I would ever get to the point of calling any of this ¨Normal¨)
The weather has been HOT. But we only got SOAKED once this week. Ha. It still amazes me how quickly the sky can go from perfectly blue and clear, to FULL of black clouds and POURING rain. Ha. It usually catches us off guard, but when it happened on Friday, we were walking up the street to a member's house (to visit, get a reference, drink juice... you know, missionary stuff) so we only got a little wet. But Hermana Perez (the mother of the family) still put towels down on the couch so we didn't get her cushions wet. Ha. The Dominicans HATE the rain! It's super funny!
As far as investigators/teaching goes, things are about the same. We are still focusing almost all our time up in El Café, and we're having TONS of success! The people up there are totally open and accepting. When we're contacting they always want us to come in right that second and talk about ¨La Palabra.¨ Ha. It's really great. We've found quite a few new families, and we're still working with La Familia Mena (Kenia and Olga and their kids), and we're still working with Saul (the Baseball player that's on the Farm team, working to go pro), and a few other progressing investigators. :)
The work is hard (I'm still not completely used to the language, or the heat) but honestly it's the most fulfilling and rewarding thing I have ever done. These people are INCREDIBLE! It blows my mind how real all these people are. I feel SO blessed to be a missionary and have the opportunity to get to know each of them on a personal/spiritual level.
There are SO many people in the world; each one with their own thoughts, fears, questions, desires, etc. And our Heavenly Father knows each and every one of us PERFECTLY. And he wants us to be happy. How fantastic is it to know that? How great is the blessing that we have of this knowledge?? We know for a fact that God is there. He IS real. And we know, through a living profeta hoy día, EXACTLY what we need to do if we want to be happy.
Also, this last Wednesday we had an AWESOME lesson with our investigator Karina and her ¨husband¨ (they're saving money to pay for the divorce from his first wife --30,000 pesos -- yeah, no wonder no one wants to get married here) before they can get married, and before she can get baptized) Alcides (he was born into the church). We talked about Baptism, the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End. We explained how baptism is a covenant, or promise that we make with the Lord. And that when we promise to take upon ourselves the name of Christ and to keep His commandments; Heavenly Father promises us the companionship of the Holy Ghost. Then we explained the purifying power of this ordinance, and how she can be completely clean. But that this isn't the last step! After we get baptised we have to endure to the end! We explained it with an analogy of a Silver Smith; the Silver Smith (i.e. the Holy Ghost) uses a process of heat and water, to first purify, and then mold the silver into what he wants it to become! It doesn't happen right away! It was definitely an on the spot, INSPIRED teaching technique! Ha. It was an AWESOME lesson! The spirit was SO strong! Karina was BAWLING at the end. Ha. It was super cool. :)
I love being a missionary! I don't ever want this to end!
I hope you are all healthy and happy. :)
I love each and every one of you with everything I've got!
The Church is true!!
Love,
Elder Mooney
