It's about them, not about you -- Monday, September 16, 2013

Hello family of mine!

My week was great! And from the updates I just read through, it sounds like yours was as well!

Taylor's marrying a girl with a heart tattooed on her finger (someone fist bump him for me, please) and Demaree spent the weekend at my house. ha. At the moment, I just feel happy. :) I love all you people.

Our week here in Barahona was good. We've been working hard, focusing on expanding our investigator pool, and of course, learning all sorts of life lessons. :)

This week I adopted a new mission motto. Before this week my motto was "just roll with it!" Ha. Cuz lots of unexpected things go down while serving as a missionary in the DR. I've had to put on a smile and "just roll with it" more times than I can count. ha. But as I've been serving here in Barahona I've developed some new convictions.

Yes, just rolling with it is a great way to live your life. Everything is chill, and there's little stress. But being the person that 26 missionaries go to with all their questions and concerns makes just rolling with it a little more difficult. I feel like the 24 missionaries I worry about are my little brothers and sisters. If someone's gonna mess with them, they've gotta go through me. I'd easily take a bullet for any one of them. I'm totally ok with people causing turbulence in my life; it's something I can "just roll with." But if I can do anything within my power to protect my missionaries from unnecessary stress, I'm gonna do it. My calling is to protect, provide and preside for the missionaries here in Barahona. So the new phrase I recite when things get tough is "it's about them, not about you."

I know I'm here to help other people. I've been called to find those that are searching for the truth, and to serve them with all I've got. I know God has a plan for each of us, and He lets our paths cross RIGHT when we need them to.

I'm a representative of Jesus Christ. In other words, I'm an angel. I've been sent to cross paths with all kinds of different people (and missionaries) from all sorts of different walks of life. My job is to do what Christ would do, put their needs before mine, and SERVE.

It's about them, not about you.

Love,
Elder Cade Mooney
